Teaching // My Philosophy

Teaching will always be a work-in-progress, requiring awareness and vigilance of BOTH successes and challenges. I strive to be a professor who is compassionate yet firm and flexible when appropriate, kind, clear in my expectations, transparent, equitable, curious, and engaged. Maintaining appropriate boundaries – for myself and others – is vital to my success. I hold high expectations of myself, my students, and my colleagues. The use of humor, authenticity, and integration of multiple learning modalities are cornerstones of my teaching. Acknowledgment of the immense importance of diversity, in its myriad forms, across all spheres of being, is vital.
